Welcome to the brand-new redesign of TFC Refugees!
This has been quite an overhaul from the previous software into something much more customized. I’ve been working on this off and on for quite some time, and recently I had some extended time to finish most of it.
I’ve brought over all of the old data from the XenForo system. Nothing was lost, and all links were preserved as if nothing had changed.
Moving forward, I’ve ditched the old username and password system and now use Steam’s API to register and log in to your account. All old accounts were updated to the correct Steam ID format, so when you go to log in and authenticate, it will find your account and log you in automatically. We don’t save passwords or ask for them, but we do require a valid email for additional authentication in case Steam is down.
What is new on the website
- The downloads system got a bit of an overhaul. There is now an archive list for every file in the archive, so you can see which files are included along with the MD5 sums for each file. This is useful if you’re trying to track down a specific file.
- There is now a Videos section where you can upload your AVIs and other videos. I have also uploaded all of the missing AVI files to the system and redirected the download pages to the correct locations. You can watch the video right from the page, as well as download the original file.
- There is a new working TFC Master List that displays all current active game servers. We use the Steam API for this data since the old master list domain has been shut down.
- We now have a Game Servers page where you can see all of our active servers, as well as a list of our Discord users. If you haven’t joined our Discord server yet, you can join here!
- File submissions are now supported for both the videos and downloads sections.
- There is a new donations system where you can donate using Stripe or PayPal. Your username can be listed on the page, or you can remain anonymous. Your donations go directly back into the server to help keep the site and game servers running, and I truly appreciate any and all support.
What's new on the game server
- The server now has a speedrun logger for fastest times map was beat. It's still in beta and not all maps were mapped with the coordinates. This is a work in progress.
What was fixed
- The Discord invite link was invalid for some time and I am unsure how long that was. But I have updated the link so it has the correct invite now.
- There was an issue for quite some time that the player would be tilted when strafing left to right. I have figured out the issue and fixed it.
- Few plugins were also updated to work with AMXMODX 1.10.0. I still have a few more to update which I will fix in the coming days.
I’m still adding files to the downloads system, but I want to include pretty much anything and everything related to Team Fortress Classic. So if there’s something missing that you’d like to see, you can now submit it.
That's all for now and check back for some more updates! Enjoy!
Community member Unknown, released a new strafe map. This map consists of 11 strafe courses of various difficulty.
It's been awhile since I have posted any kind of update regarding TFC Refugees. Today I have done quite a bit of updating on both the website and server.
First off the whole backend of the server was migrated and moved to a docker container to better secure our infrastructure. The website was updated to the current version of Xenforo (the software I used to build this site). Most everything backend was updated to any current versioning. With that I have made a new theme instead of the plain white one I was using before. There are still some tweaks to make and those adjustments will come in due time. Lots of small things were fixed here that the normal person probably wouldn't notice. Some things were broken and some were just configured wrong. Registration is now turned back on. I have migrated to some new spam checks to further help with spam registrations. Accounts will still need to be approved before use. Emailing has also now been reactivated with the use of Zoho Mail. I no longer send mail via my server(s).
Secondly, the game server was also moved to a docker container as well utilizing the linuxgsm server software. With this change came updating the overall TFC game. Yes you read that correctly. Valve still updates GoldSrc. With this update came with breaking some of the plugins we use. I have disabled a few of them pending further research and upgrading. I will try my best to fix those plugins if I can. I have also updated metamod and amxmodx to the current versions available (1.9). A while back I created a [master maps pack](/downloads/tfc-refugees-skillz-master-map-pack.1421) for all the maps that are in our multiskillz server. That way you don't have to download all of them individually threw the server.
That's all I have for right now. You may see some more changes in the coming weeks and maybe a new map if I have the patience and time. TFC Refugees isn't going anywhere and I will still support the community anywhere I can with the community built. If you wanna show your support. You are welcome to donate but isn't required.
Thanks and I will see you all in the server at some point! Long live Team Fortress Classic.
